Extension please! Taxpayers make case for ITR deadline deferment

(Jansen Romero / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) They made the appeal to Malacañang even as the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) stood firm on the original deadline. Most of the requests came from taxpayers based in Metro Manila and the nearby four provinces which were placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Infectious Diseases (IATF) last March 29 due to the resurgence of the virus. They said the ITR filing deadline should be extended until such time that the virus has been curbed, or at least when a substantial number of the population has been inoculated from the illness.

We did not learn, Robredo says on aid distribution – Manila Bulletin

Vice President Leni Robredo (Jansen Romero / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) In her weekly radio show with broadcaster Ely Saludar, Robredo was reacting to reports that LGUs are having a hard time distributing the P1,000 to P4,000 cash assistance to impoverished households under the National Capital Region Plus (NCR Plus) bubble, which includes the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna.  Some beneficiaries said they have to wait in line for hours to receive their “ayuda.” “Per LGU, iba-iba ang experience pero, Ka Ely, parang di na tayo natututo. Di na tayo natututo paano aayusin ito kasi last year ganito din naging problema (Per LGU, they have different experience but, Ka Ely, it’s like we did not learn. We did not learn how to fix this because last year, this is also our problem),” Robredo said.

On Araw ng Kagitingan, Robredo calls for solidarity to overcome pandemic challenges

Vice President Leni Robredo (Photo by Jansen Romero / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) Just like the country’s brave heroes who fought for the freedom decades ago, the vice president urged Filipinos to show the same unity and courage during these trying times. “Tulad ng Bataan noon, nababalot tayo ng kadiliman ngayon dahil sa pandemya. Marami na sa atin ang nagsakripisyo, ang nagdusa, ang nawalan.  Pero paalala rin ang araw na ito: Walang Pilipinong kailangang maging magiting mag-isa. Sama-sama tayo. Tulong-tulong tayo (Like in Bataan before, we are gripped by darkness today due to the pandemic. Many have sacrificed, suffered and lost. But the day reminds us that no Filipino need to be brave alone. Let us stay united. Let’s help each other),” she said in her Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) message Friday, April 9.

#NasaanAngPangulo? Robredo says it s natural for Filipinos to look for their leader during crisis – Manila Bulletin

Vice President Leni Robredo (Jansen Romero / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) President Duterte was last seen by the public through his weekly address to the nation on March 29. Since then, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has ballooned to 828,366 with 167,279 active cases as of April 8. Although his former aide, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, posted two purportedly recent photos of the President at the Bahay ng Pagbabago at the Presidential Security Group (PSG) compound, that didn’t stop netizens from making the #NasaanAngPangulo trend once more on social media. During her interview with ANC’s Headstart, Robredo seconded the netizens’ concerns over Duterte’s seeming absence, which Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said was for health safety after at least 45 PSG members tested positive for COVID-19.
