They made the appeal to Malacañang even as the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) stood firm on the original deadline.
Most of the requests came from taxpayers based in Metro Manila and the nearby four provinces which were placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Infectious Diseases (IATF) last March 29 due to the resurgence of the virus.
They said the ITR filing deadline should be extended until such time that the virus has been curbed, or at least when a substantial number of the population has been inoculated from the illness.

In her weekly radio show with broadcaster Ely Saludar, Robredo was reacting to reports that LGUs are having a hard time distributing the P1,000 to P4,000 cash assistance to impoverished households under the National Capital Region Plus (NCR Plus) bubble, which includes the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna.
Some beneficiaries said they have to wait in line for hours to receive their “ayuda.”
“Per LGU, iba-iba ang experience pero, Ka Ely, parang di na tayo natututo. Di na tayo natututo paano aayusin ito kasi last year ganito din naging problema (Per LGU, they have different experience but, Ka Ely, it’s like we did not learn. We did not learn how to fix this because last year, this is also our problem),” Robredo said.

President Duterte was last seen by the public through his weekly address to the nation on March 29. Since then, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has ballooned to 828,366 with 167,279 active cases as of April 8.

During her interview with ANC’s Headstart, Robredo seconded the netizens’ concerns over Duterte’s seeming absence, which Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said was for health safety after at least 45 PSG members tested positive for COVID-19.
