After Dana Nessel won the Attorney General race in 2018, she got a note from incoming House Speaker Lee Chatfield congratulating her. She thought it was sarcastic.
Nessel had built her political brand as a tireless LGBT advocate and a progressive Democrat. Chatfield, R-Levering, was a conservative Republican who had gotten to Lansing by challenging an opponent who proposed extending civil rights to LGBT people.

Rep. Julie Rogers has been appointed as the Democratic assistant floor leader in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Democratic Floor Leader Representative Yousef Rabhi appointed Rogers to the position. Rogers said she is honored, humbled and excited to serve in the position, which she hold for the 2021 - 2022 legislative term.
Rogers, 45, was elected to the seat after current state Rep. Jon Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, could not run for reelection due to term limits. The Kalamazoo County commissioner, and former chairperson of that board, won the state House race in November’s general election with 74.94% of the vote.

A Michigan county Republican party has voted to censure U.S. Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) after he voted to impeach President Donald Trump.
Upton joined nine other Republicans, including fellow Michigander, Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI) of Grand Rapids, in impeaching Trump after House Democrats rushed through a resolution.
Mlive reported that delegates to the Allegan County Republican Convention voted to “censure and condemn” Upton’s vote:
The delegation stated Upton “ignored the voice of his voters in Allegan County” by voting for Trump’s impeachment. The delegation claimed “incomplete evidence, little debate, and the absence of due process” led to its condemnation of Upton.
