A Timaru man jailed for two years on several drug-related charges including the sale of methamphetamine and cannabis had $78,030 in cash in his bedroom when police raided. Jonathan James Randall, 36, appeared before Judge Joanna Maze at the District Court, Timaru, on Thursday for sentencing on charges of unlawfully possessing a restricted weapon (a taser), possession of a restricted weapon, possession of a cannabis plant for supply, possession of methamphetamine and amphetamines for supply, possession of stimulants and depressants, possession of a cannabis plant, possessing LSD and failure to carry out obligation in relation to a computer search.

When a person in prison is seriously unwell and is unlikely to recover, they can apply for release on compassionate grounds. The Parole Board declined to refer Kannewischer’s application to a hearing as it required further detail about his diagnosis and prognosis, and a confirmed address to release him to, Miles said. A Dunedin student who went to retrieve his stolen cellphone found the burglar who had raided his flat was less than apologetic.
Teremoana Taokia, 52, argued with the 20-year-old victim then gave him the phone back, after urinating on it.
He came before the Dunedin District Court yesterday after admitting three burglaries, all of which occurred during a drunken spree in the city s student sector on January 17.
His co-defendant Wayne Bennett, 39, pleaded guilty to two of the break-ins.
