After the COVID-19 pandemic began, Lindsey McKinnon, an art teacher at R. Dan Nolan Middle School, was used to seeing her students’ faces from the eyes up because of the School District of Manatee County’s mask policy.
When McKinnon’s students started their self portrait projects in February, she finally saw her students’ smiles when she took photos of each student.

SARATOGA SPRINGS City restaurants could return to temporarily expanded outdoor seating as soon as March 15, but whether they will be able to do it for the entire summer the traditional tourist season remains uncertain.
The City Council, which last year approved and repeatedly extended outdoor dining on sidewalks and even in on-street parking spaces to help pull the city’s restaurants through last year’s COVID-related restrictions on indoor dining, voted Tuesday to let the arrangement resume later this month, but won’t guarantee it will be extended beyond June 30.

The Evanston Performing Arts Collective is the latest arts initiative to rethink how local groups can continue to share stories in a pandemic. The collective moved their work online to bring joy to the Evanston community.
“We’re storytellers; we have to tell stories,” said John Frank, co-founder and artistic director of Evanston 2nd Act Players, a group in the collective. “If we can’t do it in public we’ll do it online.”
At least 11 organizations, including 2nd Act Players and the Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre, united to form EPAC. The collective unveiled their second installation on Monday, in the four-part series “Celebrating Life, Community and the Arts.”
