Thank you for Eve Endicott’s May 15 guest column on electric and hybrid cars. It should help many folks with decision making.
As a hybrid C-Max owner, I do want to correct this sentence: “The transition from hybrid battery energy to gasoline-generated energy . is . not noticeable to the driver.”
Running on battery is of course silent and when the gas engine kicks in, it’s quiet but you can hear it. You can also set dashboard information to show it. And by listening to it and/or seeing it, you can control it to get better mpg when cruising. You can adjust back to battery power by adjusting your speed, usually safer.
