Passenger traffic plummeted in 2020 to just 51,000 passengers.(Garrett Barry/CBC) A pair of reports issued by airports in Newfoundland and Labrador suggest the toughest years are still to come for the industry. Both the Gander and the St. John s airports released their annual reports this month, and both suggest revenues won t fully rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic until at least 2025. In fact, both airports expect to have larger operating losses in 2021 then they did in 2020, according to projections included in their reports. The issue the airport has is not what s happened in 2020; it s what s going to happen between 2021 and 2025, which is when we project … passenger traffic to recover to 2019 levels,  said Reg Wright, CEO of the Gander International Airport Authority.
