Posted: Sat 3rd Jul 2021 Donations in memorial of former AVOW chairman to be used for the benefit of the community Memorial donations for the former chairman of the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) will go towards a fitting memorial in our community. In June it was announced that chairman and community champion John Leece-Jones had sadly passed away whilst volunteering on behalf of AVOW. He had been a trustee of AVOW since March 2011, during which time he has been Company Secretary, Chair of most committees, and AVOW Executive Chairman. He has been described as a tremendous asset to AVOW, and he will be sadly missed by all the staff, trustees, and many organisations he supported, who knew him in various roles.

AVOW celebrates National Volunteers Week 2021 with dedication to late trustee

THE Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW)’s Volunteer Centre launched a digital campaign for Volunteers’ Week. Celebrations have been taking place across the whole of Wales and UK this week to celebrate the role of volunteers in our communities. The public led, digital campaign gives thanks to a large variety of organisations and volunteers who continue to dedicate their time in our communities. A spokesman for AVOW said: Nominees were submitted throughout may for the AVOW Volunteer Awards 2021. AVOW has held an online celebration event to recognise a range of volunteers who have been awarded with certificates in recognition of their contribution.

Winners of the Marjorie Dykins OBE Volunteer Memorial Awards 2020 celebrated at virtual ceremony Volunteers from across Wrexham have been celebrated at this year’s Marjorie Dykins OBE Memorial Awards 2020. Wrexham Prostate Cancer Support Group and volunteer Anna Buckley of the of PISC (The Polish Integration Support Centre) were amongst those presented with their certificates at a virtual event presided over by John Leece-Jones (AVOW Chair). The awards are in memory of Marjorie Dykins OBE a founder member and Secretary of the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (Avow) and were established in consultation with Marjorie’s family. The Awards Scheme provides two awards – one for an individual volunteer and one for a group of volunteers with £500 for each category winner.
