WACO, TX â Tuesday, July 13, representatives took their set in a partially empty house chamber. Without quorum, nothing can be done.
Monday, July 12, Texas House Democrats flew to the nation s capitol in protest against the special session. 11 bills have the potential of being signed into law. Tuesday, Democrats took to Capitol Hill saying they left to protect democracy while Republicans took the house floor frustrated with their failure to show up.
The Republican backed house bill would add stricter voting laws. This legislation comes after a hotly contention 2020 presidential election. The bill would mail mail-in ballots harder, ban drive-thru voting center, and limit the hours at the poll.

BRYAN, Texas Texas Democrats are leaving Texas in an effort to stop republican backed voting restrictions. At least 58 democratic members of the state house of representatives are expected to leave Austin today for Washington, D.C. in an effort to block the measures from advancing.
The lawmakers are risking arrest in leaving. Under the Texas constitution, the legislature requires a quorum of two-thirds of lawmakers to be present to conduct state business in either chamber. Absent lawmakers can be legally compelled to return to the capitol.

AUSTIN, Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the agenda for a special legislative session that begins tomorrow, July 8th.
Governor Abbott’s special session includes 13 different pieces of legislation, like senate bill 7, which some say strengthens the integrity of elections in Texas and others say it’s suppressing voters.
“I don’t like that word and I don’t particularly like the word integrity either. I think what we want to know primarily is that those who are voting are those who are supposed to vote and not someone else,” Representative John Raney said.
