Students have been sent home after a sudden death at Queen Charlotte College in Picton.
Students at a high school in Picton are being sent home after a teacher died suddenly on Friday morning. Queen Charlotte College principal Betty Whyte confirmed the sudden death on Friday and said students would be sent home for the rest of the day. She could not confirm the teacher’s identity until next-of-kin were notified, she said. St John Marlborough territory manager Murray Neal said an ambulance was in attendance and a helicopter had been sent.

Paid intern work for maths and science students in Marlborough St John’s Marlborough is currently recruiting undergraduate students for a 4-week paid internship programme running this summer. The internship runs for 4 weeks from 14th June and pays students £300 per week. It is fully funded by the DfE and aims to encourage more people to train to teach as Maths or Physics teachers. Priority is given to current university students who are currently studying STEM subjects - Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths, at university, who are expected to graduate with a 2:2 Honours degree or better. St John’s last ran the programme in 2019, but had to cancel the programme in 2020 due to the pandemic.

A man has been hospitalised with burns following a fire callout at his home in Blenheim. Two fire appliances from the Blenheim Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a house on Meachen Crescent about 12.44pm on Wednesday. Police and St John Ambulance also responded. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said there was no fire to extinguish on arrival. St John Marlborough territory manager Murray Neal said a man in his 60s was transported by ambulance to Wairau Hospital with minor burns.
