Today marks the 40th anniversary of Town’s glorious UEFA Cup final victory over AZ Alkmaar in Amsterdam. To mark the occasion the club’s former public relations officer, Mel Henderson, speaks to club legend John Wark about the European success that rounded off what is considered to be the greatest season in the club’s history.
It was 40 years ago today that our club, Ipswich Town, joined football’s European elite by winning the UEFA Cup, a feat that will never be repeated.
Milne: Cost Could Force Clubs Out of Academy Category One

Town managing director Ian Milne says Championship clubs with Category One academies could switch to Category Two as they become more and more expensive to maintain. The Blues missed out on Category One by 0.3 per cent after an audit in the summer of 2014 and are set to stay at that level again next season.
Milne says owner Marcus Evans these days takes a hands-on role at Playford Road: “He’s personally spent a lot more time with the academy, he has regular reviews. We’ve got one coming up shortly.

An exhibition which celebrates the Blues’ exploits in Europe opens at the Town Hall Galleries on Saturday.
Ipswich Town in Europe marks the 30th anniversary of the club’s 1981 UEFA Cup triumph.
The exhibition starts with Town’s European Cup campaign in 1962, goes through to the Sir Bobby Robson era in the 1970s and 1980s and then on to the two-season return to Europe a decade ago
The collection of memorabilia and photographs which normally adorn the walls of Portman Road will be displayed in the Ipswich Town Hall Galleries in partnership with Colchester and Ipswich Museums and Ipswich Borough Council.
Candidates complete a series of in-depth interviews to determine their goals. NTC offers an IT infrastructure management program in partnership with Nashville Software School and Volunteer State Community College that is supported by a GIVE grant from the state. Candidates selected for the GO Tech program can gain the skills and industry certification needed for an entry-level IT job free of cost.
Individuals with different goals are referred to other local organizations, such as Nashville Software School, NTC Chief of Staff Sandi Hoff said. Our students come from a wide range of backgrounds, Hoff said. We have really focused on trying to work with partners who can help identify people of color, women and veterans . because those are three groups that are currently underrepresented in technology professions.
