Study sheds more light on rate of rare blood clots after Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine
Rate of adverse events low; benefits of the vaccine still outweigh risks in most situations, say researchers
A large study from Denmark and Norway published by The BMJ today sheds more light on the risk of rare blood clots in adults receiving their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca covid-19 vaccine.
The findings show slightly increased rates of vein blood clots including clots in the veins of the brain, compared with expected rates in the general population. However, the researchers stress that the risk of such adverse events is considered low.
The team found no increase in the rate of arterial clots
New Delhi:
A large study in Denmark and Norway has found slightly increased rates of vein blood clots, including in the brain, among adults who had received their first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, compared with expected rates in the general population.
However, the study published in The BMJ on Wednesday, stresses that the risk of such adverse events is considered low.
The researchers from University of Southern Denmark, and Norwegian Institute of Public Health, set out to compare rates of blood clots and related conditions after vaccination with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine with those in the general populations of the two countries.

The one caveat all board members agreed to was that they would not accept a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement for the planned 43-acre, 161-unit apartment complex in the hills south of the Vestal Parkway and in a rural area near Binghamton University. If this project were to come back and seek a PILOT versus tax payment, I would not be in support of that, Councilman John Fletcher said.
Town Attorney David Berger assured the board that developer Landmark Properties would not be seeking a PILOT. I did speak with the project sponsor s attorney this afternoon and she said that there is no application, there has not been an application for a PILOT, and there is no intention to do so.
Did Delaware Ban Spanking, Inching Towards the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child?
Did Delaware just ban spanking? A new law protecting children against child abuse is so non-specific as to appear to take in almost any type of corporal punishment, including spanking.
Gov. Jack Markell of Delaware signed Bill 234 into law on September 12. The problem in the way the new Delaware law is written comes from the following phrase in the law:
“Abuse” means causing any physical injury to a child. . . “Physical injury” to a child shall mean any impairment of physical condition or pain.
The word “pain” is very general and takes in almost anything. When laws are written using general terms, it gives greater freedom to the government to interpret however they wish.
