Guest column: Watch out for more misinformation on Constitutional amendments

As a result of a bill I authored with Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward and Sen. John DiSanto, three potential amendments will appear on the ballot this spring to prohibit discrimination and improve the way the state responds to emergencies. Although all three of these amendments are popular with voters, Gov. Tom Wolf and his allies are doing everything possible to derail the amendments pertaining to emergency declarations so he can continue to ignore the legislature and thumb his nose at the will of the people. The sabotage effort began with the wording of the questions that will appear on the ballot. The language the Administration used has been widely criticized as being inaccurate, confusing and prejudicial (it absolutely is).

Way We Were: Boxer Bennie Briscoe feared in the ring, loved outside it

The story of Augusta-born boxer Bennie Briscoe could be that of Philadelphia s Rocky, if the beloved movie tough guy had never won the big fight. Born in 1943, Briscoe left Georgia at 16 with few fond memories, except that he once caddied for President Dwight D. Eisenhower at Augusta National Golf Club and was tipped $100. He went to Philadelphia, found work with the streets department (initially killing rats) and kept at his day job for the next 40 years. His night job became boxing, and the man they called Bad Bennie was very good. In a career from 1966 to 1982, he won 66 times with 53 knockouts, lost 25 times and had five draws.
