Greensburg police said a submarine sandwich helped lead them to a suspect accused of stealing a donation jar from a local pizza shop.
Gabriel A. Smith, 41, of Jeannette is charged with theft and receiving stolen property in connection with the theft of approximately $100 in donations collected in a jar kept on the counter at Abie and Bimbo’s Pizza, 1017 Highland Ave.
Officer John Carnes reported in court documents the donations were meant for the Westmoreland County Animal Response Team, which responds to animal emergencies in Allegheny, Fayette and Westmoreland counties.
Parkesburg Borough Council is exploring an idea from the Chester County Department of Community Development to turn the historic Parkesburg Arms Hotel at 415 W. First Ave. into a short-term rehabilitation shelter to assist up to 40 homeless county citizens.
Council President Sharon Wolf and Borough Manager Joe Reali said they recently met with Pat Bokovitz, director of the development department, and representatives from the agency Resources for Human Development, who are interested in renting the vacant historic hotel from owner Fred Gunther.
âIâm not opposed to it, but I have lots of questions,â council member Todd Brade said during the remote meeting.
