After test drive, activists claim illegalities afoot
Since vaccinations opened up for the 18-44 age group from May 1, several citizens are unable to find slots on CoWIN. Many complained that slots fill up within minutes of opening. Amidst chaos, a sting operation by city-based health activists revealed grave malpractice in slot bookings. They exposed that due to some prior ‘setting’, slots for different centres get filled 20-30 minutes before opening to public 8 pm of the previous day.
Jan Arogya Abhiyaan (JAA) members found slots meant for May 10 completely filled around 7.40 pm on May 9. They have now raised this issue with the state government, demanding action against this “corrupt practice” keeping needy citizens out of the drive.

Mumbai: In an attempt to make the Covid vaccination drive smooth and hassle-free for all age groups in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is considering the idea of implementing a system under which people could be directed to go to centres located in the municipal ward in which they reside, rather than vaccine-centre hopping across the city or to other districts for the purpose. This, sources said, is among several ideas the BMC is mulling at this stage, but the details of implementation are yet to be thrashed out.
