Janice Harvey: Inside an anaphylactic nightmare
By Janice Harvey
I was speechless.
When I realized my airway was closing, there was no one in the house to tell. I’d just taken a big swig of water I’d doctored with a yummy flavor enhancer when I felt my throat closing. I grabbed the phone and dialed 911, but I was barely able to squeak out the words “I can’t breathe.” It’s true you can utter those words as your windpipe narrows, but not much else.
The dispatcher recognized this and told me not to attempt to speak. Instead she had me press keys for “YES” and “NO.” Help was on the way, but it occurred to me that the security in my building would hinder their arrival if I should pass out, unable to buzz them in. I went outside, figuring that I’d at least be visible on the sidewalk if I should lose consciousness.
Chamber Corner: Worcester Green Corps to clean up, beautify city streets
Timothy P. Murray
While undoubtedly there are new levels of private investment taking place in Worcester that create jobs, expand the tax base, and generate economic activity, there has been one negative issue that has continued to fester: the amount of trash and litter along city streets, and in neighborhoods and environmentally sensitive areas.
Here at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, we have observed this problem and have regularly heard complaints about it from chamber member businesses and chamber board members alike. Recently, former Worcester Mayor Raymond Mariano, who now writes a weekly column in the Telegram and Gazette, wrote about litter throughout the city, as did Worcester Magazine columnist Janice Harvey. Both correctly stated that a more collective effort was needed to address this challenge.
Janice Harvey: Your call is important to us
Janice Harvey
“Who is this?”
“This is Brian calling on behalf of the Acme Collection Agency of Albuquerque, New Mexico. I wish to speak with Mr. Trump regarding a debt. Am I speaking with Mr. Trump?”
“ Uh, no. This is his . assistant.”
“Could I have your name, sir?”
“John. John. Barron.”
“I see. Well, Mr. Barron, it appears that your employer amassed a large debt while holding a campaign rally in the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico.”
“What rally? I haven’t, I mean he, hasn’t left the grounds since January 20. Sounds like you have a bigly mistake in your records. Or it’s a scam of some kind. Is this the IRS? ”
