SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane’s Community Housing and Human Services department has lost yet another employee.
Acting CHHS Department Director David Lewis will resign from his position at the end of August. Lewis took up the role following Cupid Alexander’s departure in June, citing racist mistreatment from City Administrator Johnnie Perkins.
Lewis is primarily CHHS’s Community Management Information System Administrator.
The department has also seen resignations from former manager Tija Danzig and former director Timothy Sigler in recent months.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane’s outgoing Director of Neighborhoods, Housing and Community Services has a new job in Texas.
The City of Austin announced Friday that Cupid Alexander will be working there as Assistant Director in Housing and Planning.
Alexander has been with the City of Spokane since June 2020, but recently announced his resignation after alleging City Administrator Johnnie Perkins mistreated him because he is Black.
An email he wrote before his departure showed him accusing Perkins of using racist language and treating him differently from other employees because of his race.

SPOKANE, Wash. Spokane’s former Neighborhoods, Housing and Human Services Director accepted a position in Austin, Texas following his resignation back in June.
Cupid Alexander was nominated by Mayor Nadine Woodward and confirmed unanimously by the city council in November 2020. He officially stepped into the role on Nov. 16.
On June 15, Alexander surprisingly announced he was resigning, but did not reveal any friction with other city leaders, saying in statements only that he was transition[ing] to another journey at the end of next month, and that the timing was right for me.
