Fandango Reveals He Was Almost Put Into WWE Faction

In an interview with Such Good Shoot podcast, former WWE star Fandango talked about how he became Fandango. Originally wrestling under the gimmick Johnny Curtis, Fandango got the dancing gimmick after a previous idea geared towards joining 3MB fell through.
“It’s actually it’s a weird story,” Fandango recalled. “So at the time, my old tag partner, Tyler Rex, and I were tag champs in FCW. And he got called up to ECW around like 2008 or nine, and he didn’t really end up doing too much. Then Curt Hawkins was kind of floating so they put Curt Hawkins, Brian Myers, and Rex together. And they had they wanted them to come out every week as like firefighters or doctors and do a strip stripper gimmick, which is kind of like what Breeze and I were doing in NXT. Former WWE star Fandango joined the Such Good Shoot podcast to talk about his time working in WWE. Part of the discussion focused on the promos cut during the rain delay Night One of WrestleMania 37 this year, which Fandango called successful due to them being completely off the cuff.
“They weren’t walking around in the back with a piece of paper in their hands trying to remember their s t because they’re worried about getting yelled at when they got to the back,” Fandango said. “Like if you ever listen to Steve (Austin) talk, he couldn’t remember all those lines, but he knew where he had to go. And he knew what bullet points he needed to hit. When we did Fashion Files, Breeze and I were like ‘I can’t remember s t.’ Like, I can’t remember us talking about doing this promo, I forgot about it. The rumored WWE releases coming Friday turned out to be accurate as the company continued their recent paredown of the roster, focusing on both NXT and 205 Live talents.
The final list as of Friday night: Fandango, Tyler Breeze, Tony Nese, Ariya Daivari, August Grey, Ever-Rise (Chase Parker and Matt Martel), Curt Stallion, the Bollywood Boyz (Sunil and Samir Singh), Arturo Ruas, Marina Shafir, Killian Dain, and Tino Sabbatelli.

The 39-year-old Fandango (Curtis Hussey) had been with the company since 2006 when he signed a developmental deal and started with Deep South Wrestling. Wrestling as Johnny Curtis, he won the fourth season of NXT with R-Truth as his mentor but was only up on the main roster for a short period of time.
