The city doesn’t need Skyway or Highline
Please don’t waste taxpayer dollars to develop the Skyway further OR for making it a Highline pedestrian pathway. Jacksonville isn’t New York City which has a pedestrian Highline over a part of the city. Jacksonville isn’t a “build it and they will come” city. Downtown Jacksonville had the beautiful Landing on the waterfront, but 30 years later, our mayor decided it needed to be torn down. It could have been renovated or updated, but the people didn’t come and stores left. The same will happen with the Skyway and a Highline. What Jacksonville DOES have is the beautiful Riverwalk. If developers ever get around to completing their proposed buildings and projects along the Riverwalk, only then will Downtown Jacksonville become a destination. I’ve lived here over 30 years; I’ve heard all the promises. Still waiting.
