No 1 Maryland Downs No 12 Ohio State in College Park

Share COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Top-ranked and undefeated Maryland used an eight-goal run in the second and third quarters to earn an 18-8 victory over Ohio State on Sunday afternoon in College Park. The Buckeyes are 4-5 on the season while Maryland improves to 9-0. The Short Story After an evenly played first quarter, one in which Ohio State took a 2-1 lead at the 8:48 mark on a Johnny Wiseman goal, Maryland knotted the score at 2-all 2:05 before the end of the quarter and then outscored Ohio State 6-1 in the second quarter to open up an 8-3 halftime lead. The trio of Jack Myers, Tre Leclaire and Johnny Wiseman all scored two goals for the Buckeyes. Leclaire added an assist for a game-high three points. Myers had his ninth consecutive multi-goal game while Leclaire came within three points of 200 for his career.

That was perhaps the sloppiest game Ohio State has played in a long, long time. If Ohio State had managed to beat Rutgers in their second game, I might have considered the Buckeyes to be pretty close to a shoo-in for the national tournament. But at this point, it would be hard to say that the Buckeyes are going to be in the field of 16 at all. The big 3 for Maryland feasted on the Buckeyes. Jared Bernhardt had 6 goals on 10 shots, Dylan Maltz scored 4 on 5 shots, and Logan Wisnauskas had a ho-hum 1 goal, 2 assist day for the Terps.

High school athletes overcome loss off Grade 12 season to earn spots on university teams

“It’s definitely sad.” But that’s the way it is. Most of the high school Class of 2021 has sent out video from their Grade 11 seasons. But spring-sport athletes have had their entire high school careers, including Grades 11 and 12, wiped out. Football is a fall sport so those players at least got in their Grade 11 seasons in 2019 before the pandemic hit in March of 2020. “I’m fortunate in that I made varsity in Grade 10 so was able to send out video of two seasons,” said Bunting, who won the B.C. championship with the Rams in Grade 10 and made the provincial quarter-finals in Grade 11.

After a pretty hefty bludgeoning in round 1, Ohio State managed to hold on for another win im the return leg. The Buckeyes managed to score an identical numberof goals, but freshmen Brendan Grimes and Johnathan Peshko scored 4 goals on 5 shots between them to keep this game a much tighter affair. Grimes especially went off out of nowhere, having not started last week and then suddenly poured in a perfect hat trick, 3 goals in 3 shots. That s not what you want to see as a Buckeye fan, but the big lefty was the #5 recruit in the country for a reason. Buckeyes just couldn t close the deal.
