Dean Wright was convicted of the murder of Liam Hendry last month at the High Court in Glasgow after a week-long trial. Today Judge Lord Arthurson handed down the sentence to Wright, who was high on cocaine and had been drinking booze when he ploughed into the 18-year-old. The judge said the effect of Liam s loss on his family would be profound and enduring , giving them a life sentence of grief .
HIS bright smile shines out from every photograph. Liam Hendry s family shared these pictures with the Glasgow Times, showing Liam grow from a loving childhood into a fine young man. Raised the youngest son of three boys, he was at the heart of a close knit family who doted on him and he had a solid group of friends who saw each other through thick and thin. But while those friends lives are moving forward - studies, jobs, relationships and children - Liam s life was cut short by a senseless crime. Man convicted of murder after mowing down Liam Hendry A MAN who deliberately mowed down teenager Liam Hendry has been convicted of murder. Dean Wright had taken alcohol and cocaine when he ploughed into the 18-year-old, sending him flying into the windscreen and leaving him with catastrophic head injuries. Liam s parents wept and held one another as the verdict was delivered and Judge Lord Arthurson praised them for their quiet dignity throughout the trial. The judge told Wright: “You inflicted on Liam Hendry catastrophic and unsurvivable head injuries. This was a deliberate, unprovoked and murderous attack.” Lord Arthurson told Wright the only sentence for murder was life imprisonment.
