The body that advises the UK and devolved governments on tackling climate change has recognised the vital role of pumped storage hydro schemes, potentially boosting a bid for such a scheme on Loch Ness.
A report by the Committee on Climate Change acknowledged that pumped storage hydro could play a major role in unlocking the power of energy storage.
It also has the potential to create 10,000 jobs and unlock £3 billion of investment.
