(WAFF) - Counties and cities all over Alabama are waiting on millions of dollars from the American Rescue Plan program from the federal government. Nearly $200 million is currently going to counties in north Alabama. The question is, how will the money be spent? The mayor of Athens and the Decatur City Council president tell WAFF the city councils still need to vote on how the funds will be used, but both agree, improving the cities sewer systems is a top priority.

Councilman Billy Jackson was the only member to vote against the mandate being lifted. Prior to voting at the special session, Councilman Carlton McMasters spoke about his experience with the coronavirus. He said he ll continue to wear his mask until he feels safe. McMasters said that s the right thing to do as a citizen. The councilman also mentioned the infection rate in Texas, since the state lifted the mask mandate. He said numbers were the lowest Texas had seen in 10 months.

(WAFF) - The statewide mask mandate for Alabama expires Friday, April 9, but on Monday, it was all about the city of Decatur’s position on masking. During their city council meeting, leaders talked about repealing the local mask order, but the vote on repealing the mask order for Decatur never happened as a unanimous vote for immediate consideration was required. In other words, there was a vote to vote and the first vote didn’t pass.
