The fire occurred just a couple of miles south of Shepherd near Coe Road in Isabella County.
When the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department responded, the barn was fully involved.
Much of the effort was to protect surrounding structures where livestock live.
No people or animals were hurt in the blaze, but hay and thousands of dollars in equipment were destroyed.
Four other fire departments assisted in stopping the fire, and the Fire Chief says he’s thankful they did.
“It’s great teamwork. Everybody wants to come in and help,” said Fire Chief Matt Mead of the Shepherd Tri-Township Fire Department. “They’re even coming up and asking me if we need more people. They turned around and actually brought in more people when our guys started to get a little tired and worn out. It’s great to have partners like this.”
