Emergency personnel stand ready to help during any type of emergency, and that’s why Governor Whitmer has proclaimed this week as Michigan EMS Recognition Week.
The week honors first responders working on the front lines. And there’s no question that their training and efforts save lives every day.
Michigan EMS have played a vital role during the pandemic, providing out of hospital care and even preventative care.
“You’ve got to have heart and passion. That’s what it is, heart and passion, ” said James Peterson, an EMT for the Mesick Rescue Squad. “You got to be able to like what you’re doing and be able to get up at 8:00 in the morning and help grandma off the floor. You know, just heart and compassion. I love it. I’ve been doing it for 10 plus years, I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
