We are expecting a Category 1 hurricane, Manatee County Administrator Scott Hopes said Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch, a flood watch and a storm surge warning Tuesday for Manatee residents.
Elsa continues to drop a deluge of rain, and officials warn that Manatee County and Tampa Bay could experience between three to five feet of storm surge.
Congressman Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, visited Manatee County s Public Safety Center on Tuesday and urged residents to take the storm seriously. I remember a while back with Charley, it was a Category 2, it turned into a 4, and it made a be-line exactly to the right, Buchanan said. My suggestion would be obviously barrier islands, whether it s Anna Maria or any of the barrier islands along the West Coast, you have to make sure you are doing everything you can to tighten everything down.

Manatee County leaves vaccine distribution to pharmacies, focuses on hurricane season
Kimberly Kuzion reports
BRADENTON, Fla. - Since December, Manatee County has put 160,000 COVID-19 vaccines into people s arms. They ve been on the front lines. They were eager to get out and start vaccinating the community, we thought we’d be in this a lot longer, Manatee County s public safety director, Jacob Saur said.
But demand has waned at country-run vaccine sites. As the age for vaccinations was lowered, and the number of pharmacies offering the vaccine has increased, Saur said demand decreased. It s much more convenient for those that are in the community to go to their local pharmacy, physicians are starting to get it as well. We want to keep up the message, that you should get vaccinated, he said.
https://www.afinalwarning.com/509678.html (Natural News) More than 300 homeowners in Manatee County, Florida were told to evacuate on Saturday, April 3, as a wastewater reservoir was at risk of collapse 40 miles south of Tampa. Officials warned that the reservoir could flood homes with 15–20 feet of water if it collapses, according to a recent report from
Live Science.
The reservoir is a storage pond at a shut-down phosphate plant that used to manufacture fertilizer. The pond covers 79 acres and holds a mixture of saltwater dredged from Port Manatee, rainwater, stormwater runoff and fertilizer runoff from the phosphate plant.
The reservoir also contains high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen, as well as “stacks” of phosphogypsum. This is a waste product from manufacturing fertilizer that contains radioactive elements, such as radium and uranium. The reservoir has been leaking since late March.
