Local library staff are getting training in how to have tough conversations about topics such as race and gender, and the future of the library within the community, with assistance from an American Libraries Association grant.
The modest grants – each for about $3,000 – from the ALA’s Libraries Transforming Communities initiative will help train the staff at the Peterborough Town Library, Jaffrey Public Library and the James A. Tuttle Library in Antrim to facilitate conversations this year on a topic of interest to the community, and help fund materials to help make those conversations happen and pay for keynote speakers.

The Cheshire Superior Court has once again ruled against a former Jaffrey Public Library employee, denying a motion to reconsider her wrongful termination case.
Court Clerk James I. Peale submitted a notice of decision on Thursday, stating that Judge David W. Ruoff denied Marilyn Simons’ motion for consideration of the court’s previous order. The one-page document did not offer any reason for the denial.
Simons’ attorney Heather Burns submitted a motion for reconsideration on Sept. 21, arguing that Ruoff’s decision to dismiss the case did not address a claim that the library trustees violated RSA 202-A:17 by terminating her without good cause.

Conant High School started with an idea – an idea that every child in Jaffrey deserved a free secondary education, which was not a universal concept when the school was first established by John Conant 150 years ago.
“He believed every child should have a really good education,” said Karen Ayers, member of the Jaffrey Historical Society.
The Jaffrey Historical Society is marking the anniversary with an exhibit on the top floor of the Jaffrey Public Library, featuring information about the history of the high school, as well as artifacts such as slate chalkboards and yearbooks from the school’s past, donated over the years to the Historical Society’s collection.
