We spoke with attorneys, election officials, voting rights advocates and other experts to ensure we understood the bills and how they could impact Michigan voters.
That’s something Senate Republicans did not appear to do, according to GOP and Democratic clerks, who object to some of the provisions and question whether the bills are motivated by false fraud claims from former President Donald Trump and his supporters.
“The standard of proof needs to be pretty high if you re going to make life worse for a voter,” said Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck, a Republican who co-chairs the Michigan Association of County Clerks’ legislative committee.

The Ottawa County Clerk s Office is publishing its post-election audit with hopes of educating voters, showing how precise the vote was and detailing how hiccups will be fixed in the future.
Verifying the Vote is 14 pages long and was put together after questions were raised around the 2020 presidential election.

My Take: We will work to be even more secure

Transparency is the key to building trust in our elections.
Over the past year, there is no doubt that the trust in our democratic process has undergone a significant setback. In the months following the Nov. 3, 2020, election, I have spoken personally with many residents of Ottawa County who have shared their concerns about the integrity of our elections and want to know that their vote counted. I have appreciated each of these conversations because I believe every one of them represented a shared desire for integrity and a genuine concern for our community and our republic.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. â As some still try and cast doubt on the 2020 election, local officials are hoping to quell lingering concerns. In Ottawa County, theyâre making a concerted effort to give the public a close look at the election process.
âWe were getting so many calls from voters who legitimately had a lot of questions about the process and we wanted to be as open and transparent as we possibly could be and just laying out the facts of how this election was conducted,â Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck told FOX 17.
