Robert Kevelin
Robert John “Bob” Kevelin, age 78, of Pine River, passed into the arms of his Lord on April 6, 2021. He was born September 16, 1942, in Hopkins, MN.
Bob graduated high school in Hopkins and attended Vo-Tech for welding. He was a skilled cabinet maker and had this crazy ability to fix or repair almost anything. Bob married Lorna Phelps in 1961. They lived in Eden Prairie, MN, for 21 years and raised their family while working for an industrial cabinet shop. In September of 1991, they moved to Pine River, bought a farm and worked side by side haying and had a small cow/calf operation just in time for the Halloween blizzard! He worked for Nagel Custom Cabinets until he retired and finally had time to enjoy the farm and hunting and fishing with family and friends. He had deer camp for 30 years at the farm where his grandkids and nephews got their first deer and made so many great memories. Deputy Justin Madison was honored at a short ceremony Tuesday morning in the sheriff’s office at the Columbiana County courthouse for saving the life of another deputy. According to Sheriff McLaughlin, Madison took charge of the situation and instructed another deputy to call for an ambulance. Madison then performed the Heimlich maneuver on the deputy, dislodging the obstruction and saving his life. The Highway Patrol reports 60 year old Larry Steffen of Quincy was westbound, lost control on the snow covered roadway, crossed the center line and struck an eastbound car, driven by 30 year old Travis Anderson of Mexico.
Anderson was taken to Northeast Regional Hospital in Kirksville and Steffen was taken to University Hospital in Columbia, both for treatment of serious injuries.
A passenger in the Steffen car, 66 year old William Reynolds of Edina, was taken to Northeast Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
Two Clarence teenagers are hurt in a single vehicle crash on Shelby County Road 450 northwest of Shelbina at 5:10 p.m. Sunday.
