He wasn’t just a Firefighter, he became Fire Chief. Justin Perez has battled a brain tumor for the past 2 years and when he was selected by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he had only one request to be a Fireman. Justin’s Mother Laura Moreno saying: “I have no words to explain it. It’s amazing. You know we were expecting something big, but this honestly beyond words.” There was a full parade as well as other events all to make Justin’s Wish come true.

4-year-old boy battling cancer becomes fire chief for a day thanks to Make-A-Wish and last updated 2021-05-10 10:46:14-04 MCALLEN, Texas — A Texas boy battling cancer became a fire chief for a day thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. At 4 years old, Justin Perez is stronger than most kids his age. He’s battled a brain tumor for more than half of his life, KRGV reports. When Make-A-Wish heard about Justin’s story and selected him, the boy’s family says he only had one request. ‘I want to be a fireman.’ That was literally the first thing he said in the interview, Laura Moreno, Justin’s mother, told KRGV.

Like most kids his age, 4-year-old Justin Perez loves the sight of a bright red fire truck. Battling a brain tumor for half his life, he’s stronger than most, but Justin’s mom Laura Moreno says the fight hasn’t been easy. It’s been a trying two years for the family, with long drives to and from Houston for treatment. “It’s hard,” she said. “You never know what the next day brings.” Rough days are not unfamiliar to McAllen Fire Chief Jim Schultz. “We exist to respond to people’s, usually, their worst day ever,” he said.
