Watch candidates for Des Plaines city clerk take part in a feisty joint interview with a representative of the Daily Herald Editorial Board.
The 30-minute exchange between Justin Cochran and Jessica Mastalski was recorded on Zoom on March 11.
They debated whether Cochran s job as chief of staff for State Rep. Martin Moylan presents a conflict as well as the issues raised by Mastalski s challenge to Cochran s filing petitions.
The election takes place on April 6. Mail-in voting begins on March 10, with early in-person voting to follow soon after. related
Suriano drops out of Des Plaines City Council race, leaving four candidates

A Des Plaines City Council candidate has dropped out of the crowded race for the 3rd Ward seat but his name may still appear on ballots.
Robert K. Suriano is no longer seeking the post in the April 6 election because his new work hours created a conflict, he said Thursday.
Suriano s departure from the contest leaves four candidates for the 3rd Ward seat: Eugene Fregetto, Shawn T. Killian, Sean Oskerka and Norbert J. Paprocki.
In an email to the Daily Herald, Suriano endorsed Fregetto.
Term limits prevent incumbent Denise Rodd from seeking reelection.
Des Plaines mayoral candidate to stay on ballot

A Des Plaines resident has ended his attempt to get mayoral candidate Andrew Goczkowski removed from the ballot, the complainant s attorney announced. Mike Lake dropped his case Friday after Goczkowski s attorney provided evidence indicating signatures on Goczkowski s petitions were legitimate and the forms were properly notarized. Goczkowski, the city s 8th Ward alderman, is one of four mayoral candidates in the April 6 election. The others are 6th Ward Alderman Malcolm Chester, former 4th Ward Alderman Dick Sayad and former 8th Ward Alderman Michael Charewicz. A hearing is scheduled Monday for a challenge to city clerk candidate Justin Cochran s petitions. That challenge was filed by the other candidate in the clerk s race, Jessica M. Mastalski.
