A woman was hospitalized with smoke inhalation injuries after a fire broke out in the kitchen of her Jamul home on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The blaze started on the stovetop around 1:25 p.m. at the home on Jamacha Hills Road and spread to the attic, Cal Fire spokesman Thomas Shoots said.
Dozens of firefighters from Cal Fire and the San Miguel Consolidated Fire District fought the blaze and were able to save the home, with the fire knocked down within about an hour.
One resident, a woman in her 60s, was transported to UCSD Medical Center with smoke inhalation injuries. Her adult son was at the site and working with the American Red Cross for housing assistance.
