In advance of next Thursday’s YWCA 38th Annual Tribute to Women, the YWCA of Northeastern Massachusetts is having a raffle of fine white and red wines, designer purses and home spa items.
Raffle tickets are one ticket for $10, three for $25 and seven for $50 and available online at ywcanema.org. The raffle closes at noon, May 14.

Despite efforts to ensure the COVID-19 vaccines are distributed equitably across Massachusetts, predominantly Black and Latino communities, where the risk of infection is greatest, still have among the lowest inoculation rates in the state, according to a new analysis by physicians and researchers at several Boston-area institutions.

Twenty-two women will be honored in May when YWCA Northeastern Massachusetts presents its 38th Annual Tribute to Women.
Since 1983, the YWCA’s Tribute to Women has recognized more than 1,200 Merrimack Valley and North Shore women leaders from business and community organizations. Organizers say, “A hallmark of Tribute is that women honored come from all walks of life; their contributions are varied, and all are remarkable in their own unique way.”
The Tribute to Women takes place virtually May 13, at 6:30 p.m. This year, Tribute to Women’s Diamond sponsor is again Pfizer. Northshore Magazine and WHAV are media partners. A new local program is set to air on 97.9 WHAV beginning this Sunday morning.
“Pulse on Health” features health professionals from Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, which operates centers in Lawrence, Methuen and Haverhill. Hosted by Marc Lemay, the show is expected cover a range of issues every week. The first episode features GLFHC President and CEO John Silva, who retires in June. He reflected on 2020 his last full year in health care.
“It’s the worst year. It’s the most unbelievable, nightmarish year. It’s a year where every day seems the same. It’s the year with incredible strain on a health care on everybody’s health care system as well as everybody’s mental health,” Silva says.

Amid the celebrating over the recent arrival of the coronavirus vaccine came a sense of dread among some health care providers about a short supply of COVID tests especially as demand is expected to spike just before the Christmas holiday.
Some health care providers, especially those serving lower-income communities, expressed worries that despite the dramatically changed landscape for testing, widespread and quick testing remains an elusive goal. It s yet another area, they said, in which the pandemic is highlighting societal inequities.
