Jun. 23 Republicans in the U.S. Senate blocked an election reform bill that Texas Democrats have increasingly called for following the Texas legislative session, but state lawmakers are still pushing for federal action as a special session looms.
U.S. senators voted Tuesday to end debate on the For The People Act, an election reform bill that Texas Democrats said was needed after they killed a state bill that many feared would restrict access to the polls if enacted. The federal bill needed 60 votes in the 50-50 divided chamber to bypass a filibuster.

$1.9T ‘TIL INFINITY: Senate Democrats are on the verge of passing President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus bill, with GOP leaders urging their members to unanimously oppose it. But Republicans are still debating how painful to make things for Democrats.
The Senate GOP is discussing whether to drag out the “vote-a-rama” of unlimited amendments overnight, likely on Thursday.
“I’m hoping for infinity. There are people talking about trying to set up a schedule and having it go on and on,” said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
