Image Source: IANS News Hyderabad, May 2 : The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which retained the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly seat in the by-election, has increased its vote share and margin of victory compared to the 2018 polls. The ruling party marginally increased its vote share to 47.05 per cent from 46.34 per cent. Its candidate Nomula Bhagat polled 89,804 votes to defeat his nearest rival K. Jana Reddy of the Congress by a margin of 18,872 votes. The margin of victory for the TRS in 2018 was 7,771 votes. It was Bhagat s father Nomula Narasimhaiah who was elected as the TRS candidate in the previous elections, defeating Jana Reddy, a veteran Congress leader and a former minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana bypolls result: TRS leads in early trends in Nagarjuna Sagar

: The ruling TRS party candidate Nomula Bhagat on Sunday established a lead in early trends in the Nagarajuna Sagar bypoll held on April 17. Bhagat is leading by 2,118 votes over his nearest Congress rival K Jana Reddy after the second round of vote- counting, according to the Election Commission. The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of sitting TRS legislator Nomula Narsimhaiah in December last. The BJP has put up P Ravi Kumar as its candidate. The Congress candidate Jana Reddy had served as Leader of Opposition in the previous Legislative Assembly. He lost from the same constituency in the 2018 Assembly polls.
