There are times when the average person is plunged into a very difficult situation by pure chance. It is the actions of this average person that determines the outcome of a significant event.
Such was the case on a cold February day 244 years ago as our Continental Army under the command of General George Washington fought a bitter war. The well organized and trained soldiers from England engaged the Continental Army time and time again with some success and ultimate failure.
On Feb. 25, 1777, orders were sent from General Washington to two men in New Hampshire, Colonels Stark and Poore. This important message requested troops be recruited and immediately dispatched to Ticonderoga, New York.

The Purple Heart is awarded to servicemembers who are killed or wounded in combat. However, modern realities and the evolving nature of conflict raise questions about who’s eligible to receive the award.
Specifically, there’s been some debate regarding the victims of shootings in military installations in America such as the Fort Hood and Little Rock recruiting station incidents. Additionally, veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) should be eligible to receive the award.
