Venice development: 270 multifamily homes could be built off Jacaranda Blvd

The proposal will be the subject of a virtual neighborhood workshop set for 6 p.m., July 8.  CASTO Net Lease Properties wants to build nine 30-unit multifamily structures around a 3.7-acre pond, according to a site plan by Stantec, the company that will host the virtual meeting.  The parcel is located north of Venice Pines Plaza, which is located on the northeast side of the intersection of Jacaranda Boulevard and Center Road.  The overall request involved 30.55 acres of what’s technically Parcel 3 of the Venice Center Development of Regional Impact.  The land is currently zoned commercial general and office professional and institutional. The proposal would change that to RMF-3/planned unit development.

Punta Gorda woman charged in fatal wrong-way crash Published: March 4, 2021 1:52 PM EST Updated: March 4, 2021 1:53 PM EST Recommended Olivia Hernandez, 37, was arrested Thursday by the Florida Highway Patrol in Sarasota. She faces charges of DUI manslaughter, DUI serious bodily injury and DUI property damage for a Dec. 14 crash on I-75. Troopers say Hernandez was driving south in the northbound lanes between Jacaranda Boulevard and Laurel Road when her SUV collided with another vehicle. The crash left the 21-year-old male driver of that car dead and his 16-year-old female passenger with serious injuries. They were from Lauderdale Lakes and Pembroke Pines, respectively.

(WWSB) - A Punta Gorda woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter in connected with a Dec. 14 crash in Sarasota County. The Florida Highway Patrol on Thursday arrested 37-year-old Olivia Hernandez of Punta Gorda for DUI manslaughter, DUI serious bodily injury and DUI property damage. In the December 14, 2020, crash, Hernandez was driving south in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe, a mile north of Jacaranda Boulevard at about 10:40 p.m. At the same time, a 2012 Nissan was traveling north on I-75. The front left of the Hyundai collided with the front left of the Nissan. The crash resulted in the death of the Nissan driver, a 21-year-old man from Lauderdale Lakes, and serious injuries to his 16-year-old female passenger from Penbroke Pines.
