The California Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash Sunday on the Altamont Pass along Interstate Highway 580, where a pickup truck reportedly veered off the road and over a cliff.
The solo-crash was reported about 11:15 a.m. along eastbound I-580, according to the CHP. Download our mobile app for iOS or Android to get the latest breaking news and local stories.
The Alameda County coroner was at the scene and a Sig-Alert was in effect.

A vehicle fire on northbound Highway 14 in Newhall prompted a SigAlert and stalled traffic Thursday morning.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel first responded to reports of a solo vehicle on fire shortly after 9:30 a.m., near the Placerita Canyon Road exit, according to Supervisor Leslie Lua.
“There’s a vehicle rolling in the HOV lane,” Lua said of the reports.
Firefighters received additional reports that the blaze had spread to the brush, but once they’d arrived, they reported that the brush was only smoldering, Lua added.
The fire was deemed under control at 9:46 a.m., per fire officials.

The Santa Rosa man who died in a suspected DUI crash has been identified. Yesterday the California Highway Patrol identified Alvin Minniefield as the driver who died in a head-on crash on Highway 29 south of Calistoga on Monday. Minniefield’s passenger suffered major injuries. The other driver involved in the crash, 30-year-old Philip Popick, was taken to the hospital for major injuries as well. Popick was then arrested for driving under the influence of drugs causing major injury.

CHP helicopter hoists driver from crash site along Hwy 46 West

One person was taken to the hospital after crashing over the side of Highway 46 West on Monday.
According to CAL FIRE, the driver was headed westbound toward Cambria when they went off the roadway and about 200-300 feet down a steep hill.
It happened near Camino del Capitan.
The driver was the only person in the Toyota 4Runner and no other vehicles were involved, according to CAL FIRE.
The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.
Crews used a California Highway Patrol helicopter to hoist the driver out of the area to a waiting ambulance.
