Stanislavski was born in Russia in 1863, and his birth name was Konstantin Sergeevich Alekseev. He was exposed to the arts from a young age and as a child regularly visited theatres, operas and ballets.
During the 1800s in Russia, actors were in a lower social class, so for almost half of Stanislavskiâs life, he was limited to amateur arts to avoid casting social embarrassment on his family. âStanislavskiâ was the name he used to act without his familyâs awareness and he eventually became professional when the Moscow Arts Theatre was founded in 1897.
