Suspicious windfall: Beechwood Drive
A man received a letter from Spain Feb. 19 notifying him that a distant relative had died, leaving millions of dollars abandoned in a Barcelona bank vault. It further alleged that the Russell Township resident is the closest relative to the deceased.
He recognized it as a scam to obtain his personal information. He did not respond to the letter, but wanted police to keep a report of the incident on file.

At 10:10 a.m. Dec. 23, an officer came upon an occupied car stopped on the side of the road. The driver, a Cleveland man, 43, was found to be impaired.
In the car, police found suspected methamphetamine drugs. The man submitted to a breath test, but his blood-alcohol content was found to be .002, under the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. The man refused to take a urine test.

Theft from yards: Kersdale Road
A resident, 46, came to the police station on Dec 10 to report that porch pirates in a dark SUV pulled into their circular driveway around 2:15 p.m. the day before, with a passenger getting out and absconding with two packages left on their front entryway.
The loot included a pack of protein bars and miscellaneous cookies, as well as a bag. The investigation is ongoing, with video of the package thieves from the home’s ring.com camera available on the Pepper Pike Police Department’s Facebook page.

SOLON, Ohio Theft: Kruse Drive
At 5:50 p.m. Dec. 11, employees of Old Navy, 6025 Kruse Drive, saw a woman take merchandise into a dressing room, then walk out of the room without the merchandise in sight. The woman, who was believed to be concealing the merchandise, left the store carrying a full bag.
Police located the suspect, a Twinsburg woman, 33, and found her to be in possession of $223.41 worth of merchandise. Police charged the woman with theft.
