A man initially facing 11 years in prison for aggravated battery with a hate crime modifier was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation in a plea deal.

Neil Patrick Husom, 30, of Monroe, was found guilty of two of the 12 charges against him in the case filed in March 2020 after pleading no contest to felony burglary of a building. Other felony charges of burglary and bail jumping and misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property, theft, entering a locked coin box and bail jumping were dismissed, but âread inâ as part of the plea agreement, which means they were considered in sentencing.

A Baraboo man refused to sign a signature bond after appearing in Sauk County Circuit Court on felony charges of burglary and bail jumping.
Jason A. Brilliott, 43, faces more than 26 years in prison and fines up to $35,000 for allegedly breaking into Thunderbird Lanes in Baraboo.
During an initial appearance April 27, Circuit Court Judge Michael Screnock set a $2,500 signature bond in the case, but Brilliott refused to sign it in order on that same day to be released. Screnock set the sole condition of the bond prohibiting Brilliott from having contact with the bowling center in Baraboo.

The man arrested for allegedly injuring two people by driving by The Reef Night Club and shooting at the building April 18 was released on a $5,000 cash bond Tuesday.
Mark A. Perales, 27, of El Paso, was charged in Sauk County Circuit Court with two felony counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety and two counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle at a building.

Perales appeared in court Monday via video from the Sauk County Jail. As a condition of his bond, he is not allowed to be in Lake Delton unless driving through on the interstate.

After four days of trial and roughly six hours of deliberation, a jury found 58-year-old Albart B. Shores of La Crosse guilty on all 15 counts he faced as the result of a double fatal crash in October 2018.
Shores, formerly of Onalaska, was accused of causing the death of two men and severely injuring two others after hitting their 2009 GMC Yukon while driving a 2002 Volkswagen Golf. Shores and his passengers, then 23-year-old Shaquita V. Fajr, 19-year-old Tanganika Barber and a 2-year-old child, were uninjured.
The trial opened Monday with court actors separated by plexiglass dividers. Witnesses took the stand surrounded by a wall of plastic and instructed to remove their masks when they spoke. The precautions were a part of the first trial in Sauk County Circuit Court since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
