(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Three shops used for selling clothing materials were destroyed by fire on Friday at Kantin Kwari market, along Unity Road, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
Alhaji Saidu Muhammed, the Public Relations Officer of the state Fire Service, made the disclosure in a statement he issued in Kano on Friday.
According to the spokesman, the three shops affected by the fire are made up of two temporary shops and a main shop.
“The fire service received a distress call from one Salisu Mu’azu at about 4:24p.m.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 4:27p.m. to stop the fire from spreading to other shops.
Fire gutted the house of Abdurrahman Ibrahim (aka Babawo) at Na’ibawa ‘Yanlemo in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State and seven family members lost their lives in the inferno. It was gathered that the fire occurred on Monday around 9:30pm when the family members had already retired to bed.

Those killed in the fire incident include Ibrahim’s aged mother – Hajiya Rahinatu Jibrin; his two children, five-year-old Abdurrahman and three-year-old Khaleel.
Others are Ibrahim’s sister Aisha Ibrahim and his nieces, Intisar Ya’u, Amina Ya’u and Rahinatu Ya’u.
According to an eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, the cause of the fire was related to mosquito coils which the family members used to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Kano State Fire Service said it saved 96 lives and property worth N49.6 million in 98 fire incidents in the state in January.
Alhaji Saidu Muhammad, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Service, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Kano.
Muhammad said the fire incidents were recorded in the month of January in various parts of the state.
According to him, seven lives were lost and property worth N27.3 million were destroyed by fire during the period under review.
“The Service responded to 72 rescue calls and 16 false alarms from residents of the state,” he added.
Muhammad attributed most of the fire incidents in the state to careless handling of cooking gas, use of inferior electrical appliances and poor wiring.

An eleven year old boy, Naziru Musbahu has been confirmed dead after drowning inside a pond in Zaidawa village in Danbatta Local government area of Kano State.
The little boy, Naziru was said to have gone to play near the pond on Tuesday when he fell and drowned inside the pond.
Spokesperson, Kano State Fire Service, Sa’idu Muhammad confirmed the development saying the victim was rescued dead.
Muhammad said, “We received a distress call through Jamilu Bashir from Zaidawa village, Danbatta Local government area informing us about the incident.

An early Monday morning fire incident has claimed the lives of three members of the same family in Rijiyar Zaki, Ungoggo local government area of Kano State.
The fire incident which occurred around 3:18 am is said to have razed the ground floor building and leaving the persons (occupants) trapped indoor.
The spokesperson of the Kano State fire services, Sa’idu Muhammad who confirmed the incident to Vanguard on Monday said it deployed it rescue team to the scene, quenched the fire and rescued the victims to the hospital.
