Saima Ubaid won a gold medal in a powerlifting championship.   |  Photo Credit: Twitter Srinagar: A 24-year-old woman named Saima Ubaid created history by becoming the first woman in Jammu and Kashmir to choose powerlifting as a career.  This is a sport where we rarely see a woman taking part in it. However, Ubaid is breaking stereotypes and proving everyone wrong, for all the right reasons.  A mother, Ubaid was inspired to take up this sport by her husband, Ubaiz Hafiz, who is a powerlifter himself. Speaking to ANI, she stated the reason, I suffered from excessive weight gain when I joined the gym. My husband helped me lose the excess weight. He trained me and lead the path to the career as a weight-lifter.

Saima Ubaid becomes first woman power-lifter from Kashmir ANI | Updated: Feb 13, 2021 17:27 IST Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], February 13 (ANI): Saima Ubaid has become the first woman from Kashmir to chose a career as a power-lifter and securing a gold medal in the sport. Saima said her husband Ubaiz Hafiz, who is himself a power-lifter trained her and helped her achieve this milestone. I suffered from excessive weight gain when I joined the gym. My husband helped me lose the excess weight. He trained me and lead the path to the carrier as a weight-lifter, she said. For the first time, Jammu and Kashmir Powerlifting Association had organized the powerlifting competition for women in Srinagar. Men and women from all over the state participated in the event.
