Amid unprecedented surge in Covid cases in the state, just 12 out of samples of 276 patients sent by Haryana for whole genome sequencing (WGS) have been found positive for the UK variant strain.
The samples were tested at National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi.
Rajeev Arora, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Haryana, said that 10 of these patients are from Karnal while two others are from Gurugram. In Karnal district, three patients found positive for UK variant are from the city, two from Taraori and one each from villages Mohri Jagir, Rasulpur Kalan, Gheer, Jundla and Sainik School Kunjpura. Both cases of Gurugram are from Delhi.
The Odisha capital, whose foundation was laid by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on this day in 1948, turned 73 on Tuesday. The city, which has seen tremendous development over the past few decades, was ranked second in the Centre’s Ease of Living Index 2020 with a population of less than a million.
A number of functions were held here on Tuesday to mark its 73rd anniversary amidst Covid restrictions.
Recalling Bhubaneswar’s journey, Pradosh Patnaik, senior journalist and brother of economist Prabhat Patnaik, said: “The foundation of the city was laid on April 13, 1948, by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Bhubaneswar was designed by German town planning engineer Otto H. Koenigsberger in 1946. In the course of its journey through 73 years, the city has witnessed unprecedented development.”
No plan to impose lockdown in Haryana: Dushyant Chautala

Chandigarh, April 14 : Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Wednesday said there would be no imposition of lockdown but only night curfew would continue in view of the increasing cases of coronavirus in neighbouring states.
He said currently the situation was not ideal to impose the lockdown. The government is completely prepared to deal with the second wave of Covid-19. In order to break the chain, the Tika Utsav is going on for the past four days.
