LEWISTOWN Lewistown’s “Music in the Park” begins its tenth anniversary season with the Governor’s Hometown Award, given by the ServeIllinois Commission for exemplary volunteer service programs in the State of Illinois. Lewistown was the 2021 winner in the category of Education. “Music in the Park” was featured in a virtual award ceremony April 21 hosted by the State of Illinois. To commemorate this honor, IDOT will place permanent award signs at population markers outside of the town, and an award plaque will be placed in the community information box at Porter Park on the town square in Lewistown, the site of “Music in the Park” activities.

Bensenville receives Governor s Hometown Award for environmental stewardship

Bensenville has been honored as a community that is investing in a greener future for its residents.
The village on April 20 received a Governor s Hometown Award for environmental stewardship in recognition of the host of green initiatives it has launched in recent years. Its programs have included implementing green energy aggregation, free mulch, a cooking oil drop-off bin, holiday light and tree recycling, document shredding, and pumpkin smash recycling event, which involved disposing of pumpkins after Halloween to reduce the amount of harmful greenhouse gasses being released into the environment.
