Houston is bustling with many opportunities to shop, dine, and experience numerous attractions. That can sometimes feel too crowded and overwhelming to enjoy. So escaping the busy city for a day is something locals and visitors alike desire to do. I have made countless road trips to Houston since I was a little girl, but the ones most dear to me were the trips we took as a family at Thanksgiving to visit my great aunt. As much as I loved visiting Houston all those years, I’ve also had many chances to visit nearby small towns that I have returned to time and time again. Here are several small towns bursting with excitement that would make a perfect day trip from Houston.
A VILLAGE is set for two weeks of road closures. Chappel residents can expect delays as a stretch of road is set to close for two sets of works. Swan Street is expected to close on Thursday, August 5 while broadband company Gigaclear carries out installation works. The road will be closed until Monday, August 9 while new fibre-optic cables are installed. But further works will then take place from Tuesday, August 10 at Chappel Hill, which leads to Swan Street. Chappel Hill will also close for broadband installation work and isn’t expected to reopen until Thursday, August 19. Essex Highways has recommended using a near 12 mile diversion route which travels through Great Tey, along the A120, and up to Earls Colne to reach either side of the works.

EXPECT delays when a busy town centre High Street closes. Brightlingsea’s High Street is shutting on June 27, from its junctions with Sydney Street and Tower Street. UK Power Networks is carrying out work in the area but a detour is available via High Street, Victoria Place, Ladysmith Avenue, Church Road, Bateman Road, Red Barn Road, Bell Green, Chapel Road and Hurst Green. A new 20mph zone is being introduced in Clacton. It will come into effect in Bramwood Road, from its junction with Thorpe Road, and Oaks Drive, from its junction with Bramwood Road. The order will come into operation on June 10.
