Dennison Named Interim Deschutes County Clerk The Deschutes County Commissioners have appointed Steve Dennison as interim County Clerk, effective July 31. Dennison, who has served as Deschutes County’s Election Supervisor since 2017, will complete the remainder of County Clerk Nancy Blankenship’s term, which ends in 2022. Blankenship announced her retirement earlier this spring and recommended Dennison’s appointment to the Board of Commissioners. “You always want to leave when things are going well and I am leaving the Clerk’s Office in great hands,” Blankenship said. “It is time to pass the baton to the next generation.” Prior to joining the Deschutes County Clerk’s Office, Dennison worked for San Mateo County, where he managed the technical aspects of the Elections Office. He began his career working for an election technology vendor, Election Systems and Software.

Ex-Deschutes prosecutor who alleged toxic race, sex discrimination agrees to $87,500 settlement

(KTVZ) A former Deschutes County deputy district attorney who sued the county, alleging race and sex discrimination and a toxic sex- and race-based hostile work environment, has reached an $87,500 settlement with the county, District Attorney John Hummel announced late Thursday. A Portland attorney representing Jasmyn Troncoso, who was hired in 2019, filed the tort claim notice a year ago, alleging sex and race discrimination during her employment, which began in the summer of 2019. She resigned two weeks before the notice of intent to sue was filed. Troncoso alleged her co-workers bullied her, told her she was unqualified and a drama queen, accused her of having affairs and was ridiculed for speaking Spanish.

Sisters Rodeo Cancelled The Sisters Rodeo, scheduled in June, has been cancelled for the second consecutive year because of COVID-19 concerns. A rise in cases and the restrictions enforced by local & state government agencies, was the reason to cancel the rodeo. The board worked with State and County officials for the past several weeks and looked at the situation from all angles including feedback from community businesses, fellow rodeo associations, stock contractors and sponsors.
