A 20-year-old Chester City man who had two warrants out for his arrest is facing charges for shooting his friend, and leaving him critically wounded last year, authorities said.
Detectives responded to a report of a gunshot victim at Crozier Chester Medical Center on December 30, 2020, where they met a man who had sustained a gunshot wound to the back of the neck, according to the City of Chester Police Department.
The man was able to identify the shooter as Wanyaa Powell, police said.
The man told detectives that after being shot, Powell told him to turn around, and said “I gotta kill you bro because I don’t want to go to jail, police said.

Commodore S. Harris Jr., 76, of Chester, a versatile 30-year veteran of the Chester Police Department, the former lead pastor at First Faith Baptist Church, and a relentless advocate for the young and disadvantaged in his community, died Monday, Feb. 22, of cardiac arrest at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Mr. Harris was born and raised in Chester and spent much of his life working to make things better there for his family, friends, and neighbors.
In addition to serving in several supervisory roles, including Chief Inspector, with the Chester Police Department, he was president of the Chester branch of the NAACP, an assistant coach for the Chester High School football team, chaplain for the high school boys’ basketball team, and a volunteer for the local Police Athletic League.

At the time of his arrest, Ryan was in possession of stolen proceeds, authorities said, and he is implicated in several vehicle burglaries and attempted burglaries in Rockaway Township from the weekend of Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.

CHESTER, PA An 18-year-old man is in custody and another man is still at large in connection with a fatal Delaware County shooting.
Authorities Tuesday said Anthony Jordan, 18, aka Backdoor Phat, has been arrested and charged in the December 2020 murder of Zamir Abdullah, 19. A second suspect, Kysir Brokenbough, 20, of Claymont, Delaware, is still at-large, authorities said.
