Elevator contract approved by Cheshire Town Council

CHESHIRE â The Town Council recently approved a two-year successor service agreement with Thyssenkrupp Elevator for maintenance of elevators in town facilities.
The contract will run from from April 1 of this year to May 31, 2023. There are five elevators located in different municipal buildings for which Thyssenkrupp, which has locations throughout the country, will be responsible.
Councilor David Veleber introduced the particulars of the contract at a council meeting earlier this month, explaining that the elevators in question are located in the Cheshire Library, Town Hall, fire and police departments, and the Cheshire Senior Center. The Wallingford Public Library temporarily closed its building to visitors Monday, but plans to continue to provide borrowing services and virtual programs.
According to a statement on the libraryâs website, the main branch at 200 N. Main St. closed due to rising COVID-19 infection rates, the more contagious virus variant that has been found in New Haven County, and âserious concerns about compliance with the libraryâs mask policy.â

As a way to continue connecting patrons through literature during the pandemic, area libraries are hosting virtual book clubs. Â

At the Southington Public Library, reference librarian Lynn Gardner is hosting a Hoopla Book Club. This is in place of the Book Scents Book Club that ran before the pandemic started.
