SEVIERVILLE â Four Sevierville Police officers remained on administrative leave Wednesday, almost two full weeks after they were involved in the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect.
TBI is still investigating the Dec. 17 incident that ended in the death of 33-year-old Joshua Hoffpauir, of Sevierville.
SPD announced it was placing four officers on paid, administrative leave after the shooting.
Sgt. Justin Armstrong, and officers Mark McNabney, Tyler Hansen, and Lance Chandler remained on administrative leave Wednesday, SPD spokesman Bob Stahlke said.
The incident started when a person called 911 and said theyâd been robbed outside a store on the Parkway by a group of three people armed with a knife and a handgun, according to police.
The incident led to 911 calls from witnesses who believed there was an active shooter inside the store, but police later determined neither man ever fired a shot.
Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies quickly converged on the scene, closing off traffic on the busy Parkway and sending teams to sweep the store and surrounding area to look for the suspects and to check for anyone injured in the fracas.
It was some time later before the road or store fully reopened, as officers continued to secure the scene, collect evidence and check for anyone who might have been injured.
SPD eventually charged Ngayan with two counts of aggravated assault for pointing his weapon at Dashawn and Leon Bonner. He was being held at the Sevier County Jail Thursday.
