Though COVID-19 has provided an interesting reigning year for the 2020-2021 River Falls royal ambassador, Maddy Simon, 16, is not shying away from her passions. This weekend, she will travel with her mom and sister to Wisconsin Dells to compete for the title of Miss Wisconsin Teen USA.Â
Ever since she watched
Miss Congeniality when she was younger, Simon has wanted to compete in pageants.Â
âBeing a River Falls Royal Ambassador really made that experience memorable,â said Simon. âI gained so many amazing skills, so many new friendships and it was an amazing opportunity to experience all together. And so I thought âI want to extend that again, especially since my year, my reign was during COVID.ââ Â

So, why run for Miss Wisconsin USA? Why place yourself in an environment you barely know anything about? Why represent?
Frankly, I am running for Miss Wisconsin because winning this prize will help me further my journey to create change in Milwaukee.
Three things that have affected me my whole life: housing insecurity, divesting from youth activities and America’s War On Drugs.
Since I was a kid, I watched my community change for the worse as resources were withdrawn from important community programs and initiatives. Right now, Milwaukee is still fighting on a statewide level for a stronger voice in decisions that affect our entire community.
